Pediatric Urology

Treating Common and Complex Urinary and Kidney Problems in Children

Even before they are born, children can experience problems of the urinary tract or kidneys. SLUCare Pediatric Urology can help diagnose and treat urological conditions found in childhood — even in utero — and when needed, help patients transition from pediatric to adult urological care. When a medical procedure is required, our team uses the latest endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques to reduce pain, speed recovery and minimize scarring.

Pediatric Urological Conditions Treated

Areas of Specialty in Pediatric Urology

Voiding Dysfunction Program

Children experience urination problems for a wide variety of reasons. Our voiding dysfunction program addresses a full spectrum of patient needs with treatments that include behavioral modifications, as well as medical therapies. We offer urodynamic systems testing and Botox bladder treatment for children with severe voiding problems.

Outpatient Treatment of Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR)

VUR is a condition that causes backward flow of urine from the bladder to the kidneys. Our pediatric urology team offers Deflux injections as an effective alternative to surgical treatment for patients with primary VUR.

Fetal Care Partnership

SLUCare Pediatric Urology works closely with the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital Fetal Care Institute to help expectant parents when urological problems are identified before birth. With a team of specialists that includes obstetricians, neonatologists, nephrologists and others, we develop a treatment plan for the infant's needs and meet with parents to answer questions and discuss concerns.

Adult Congenital Urology Program

Some young patients require ongoing treatment for urological conditions as they grow into adulthood. Our SLUCare Urology team will coordinate a transition of care to our adult urology program or reconstructive urology, as needed for long-term treatment.
