SLUCare Physician Group medical geneticists evaluate, diagnose and care for children and adults with known or suspected genetic disorders. Using sophisticated genetics databases, our doctors are able to identify and confirm rare syndromes and metabolic disorders from the more than 15,000 genetic disorders identified in medical literature. We offer genetic counseling regarding prognosis, recurrence risk and implications for patients and family members.

Prenatal Genetic Counseling
Expectant mothers may be seen by a medical geneticist for a variety of reasons: advanced maternal age, abnormal maternal serum screening, fetal abnormalities identified on ultrasound, teratogen exposure or a family history of a genetic disorder.
Our doctors and genetic counselors work together to offer prenatal counseling at the following Family Birthplace locations:

- SSM Health St. Joseph's Hospital – Lake Saint Louis
In addition, we provide prenatal counseling via telemedicine in coordination with two Illinois hospitals: Anderson Hospital in Maryville and Shiloh Hospital in Shiloh.
For fetal conditions, we coordinate care with the SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital Fetal Care Institute.
Cancer Counseling
Certain types of cancer are known to run in families. Tests are available to help identify generational cancer risks. Our specialists offer cancer genetics assessments and recurrence risk counseling to help families plan for the future.
