Expert Evaluation and Care for Patients with Known or Suspected Genetic Disorders

SLUCare medical geneticists evaluate, diagnose and care for children and adults with known or suspected genetic disorders. Using sophisticated genetics databases, our doctors are able to identify and confirm rare syndromes and metabolic disorders from the more than 15,000 genetic disorders identified in medical literature. Prenatal Genetic Counseling

Expectant mothers may be seen by a medical geneticist for a variety of reasons: advanced maternal age, abnormal maternal serum screening, fetal abnormalities identified on ultrasound, teratogen exposure or a family history of a genetic disorder.

Our doctors and genetic counselors work together to offer prenatal counseling at the Maternal and Fetal Care Center at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital – St. Louis, SSM Health DePaul Hospital – St. Louis, and SSM Health St. Joseph's Hospital – Lake Saint Louis.

In addition, we provide prenatal counseling via telemedicine in coordination with two Illinois hospitals: Anderson Hospital in Maryville and Shiloh Hospital in Shiloh.

For fetal conditions, we coordinate care with the SSM Health St. Louis Fetal Care Institute at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.

Cancer Counseling

Certain types of cancer are known to run in families. Tests are available to help identify generational cancer risks. Our specialists offer cancer genetics assessments and recurrence risk counseling to help families plan for the future.
