Reference Laboratories and Pathology Consults

The Department of Pathology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine offers full-service reference laboratories serving the needs of physicians, hospitals and managed care organizations nationwide. We provide a broad range of routine and specialized tests reflecting state-of-the-art laboratory medicine evaluations. In addition to reference laboratory services, the department also provides laboratory support for SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, a 316-bed facility accredited by the Joint Commission (JCAHO).

The medical directors of the reference laboratories are affiliated with the Department of Pathology and participate in teaching, research and community service. These professionals author textbooks and journal articles; present lectures, workshops and symposia at national and international meetings; and participate in the training of medical students and residents. The reference laboratories are also affiliated with Doisy College of Health Sciences and contribute to the training of medical technologists and other laboratory professionals.

The Department of Pathology reference laboratories maintain all appropriate accreditations and licensure (CMS, CLIA, CAP 1921022, and FDA).

Our quality control program includes daily monitoring of reagents and instruments, participation in programs such as the College of American Pathologists accreditation program.
