Our physicians practice patient waiting with laboring moms, resulting in lower rates of C-section, episiotomy and elective early deliveries. We also encourage vaginal birth after cesarean, or VBAC, when it’s safe for both mother and baby.

Though our team at St. Mary’s delivers a lot of babies (thousands each year), you won’t feel like a number here. Each mom, each birth, each baby receives individual attention from doctors, nurses, residents and fellows focused on your unique needs.
Assurance When Complications Arise
Our team is experienced in both low-risk and high-risk pregnancy and delivery, so we’re ready for whatever needs may develop. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists are always on standby and there’s a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) on site, where newborns with immediate needs receive high-level care close to Mom.

The WISH Center at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - St. Louis brings together SLUCare Obstetrics and Gynecology providers, nurse practitioners, social workers, and soon, a psychiatrist to provide comprehensive prenatal care for women with substance abuse issues.
