Internists & General Internal Medicine

Providing Personalized, Comprehensive Primary Health Care

SLUCare Physician Group internists are general practitioners who provide personalized, comprehensive primary health care services for children and adults. Our areas of expertise include the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.

Acute care appointments are available each day at the Center for Specialized Medicine. Our offices also offer immunizations, cholesterol and glucose testing, and consultation before surgery. We strongly believe in the promotion of health and place a special emphasis on the complete assessment of your new or existing conditions.

We also supervise patient care at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. We have outpatient offices at the Center for Specialized Medicine and at SLUCare Des Peres.

You might already be familiar with the phrase “primary care provider” or “PCP.” At Saint Louis University, one type of primary care provider is a general internist.

SLUCare general internists handle the broad spectrum of illnesses affecting adults. They are recognized as experts in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic illnesses, as well as in health promotion and disease prevention.

Internists are not limited to one type of medical problem or organ system. They often provide lifelong care for patients, establishing enduring, rewarding personal relationships. Most general internists provide care both in an office or outpatient setting and in an inpatient setting when their patients become hospitalized.

SLUCare's general internal medicine practice also has physicians who are board-certified experts in both internal medicine and pediatrics. These internists provide comprehensive care for children and adolescents, as well as adults.

The general internists and internist-pediatricians at Saint Louis University have built an academic medical practice that has provided care to patients, including many SLU employees, for more than 25 years.

Our support staff includes nurses and social workers, all of whom actively participate in caring for our patients and in educating medical students from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

SLUCare internists offer appointments for acute care/non-emergency medical conditions through our Center for Specialized Medicine, Monday through Friday, from 8:40 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

Established patients with an urgent medical need can typically be seen with a same-day appointment.

We offer a range of tests, including urinalysis, pregnancy testing, strep and rapid strep testing, and ECGs. Additional laboratory testing is available.

If you are an established patient and would like to request a same-day appointment through SLUCare's Acute Care Service, call 314-617-2525.
