Botox® Treatment for Hyperhidrosis

Many people are familiar with the cosmetic use of Botox®, but it can also be used to treat excessive sweating.

Botox® blocks the release of neurochemicals that stimulate sweat gland activity. The providers at SLUCare Hyperhidrosis Clinic are experienced in using Botox® to treat parts of the body affected by excessive sweat with the appropriate dose and injection location while maximizing your comfort and minimizing potential side effects.

During the procedure, several injections are delivered to the skin where excessive sweating occurs, often the underarms, palms or scalp. Depending on the body area, the injection procedure itself takes five to 20 minutes. Most patients notice a reduction in symptoms within one week and maximum results within two weeks. Most patients have symptoms reduced for about six months. After that time, the procedure must be repeated.

Paying for Botox® Injections for Hyperhidrosis

Some insurance plans cover the treatment of hyperhidrosis, including Botox®. SLUCare physicians will write a letter requesting prior authorization to your health insurance company. It typically takes six weeks for a result. If your medical insurance does not cover Botox®, there is a manufacturer-sponsored patient assistance program.
